Subject: Plans for 2013-2014 Verification Worksheets
Over the last several weeks, we have been asked whether we would be providing verification worksheets for the 2013-2014 award year and, if so, when the worksheets would be available. This Electronic Announcement responds to those questions and gives institutions early notice about the Department’s plans to help them gather the information needed to complete verification for the 2013-2014 award year.
As part of the move to the Department’s goal of a customized approach to verification, we will not provide sample worksheets for the 2013-2014 award year. Instead, we will provide suggested text that financial aid administrators may use to collect information required for verification. We will include suggested text for each of the required 2013-2014 verification items that were included in the July 12, 2012 Federal Register Notice and in Dear Colleague Letter (GEN-12-11) that was posted to IFAP on July 17, 2012.
Just as institutions were not required to use the Department’s sample worksheets, they will not be required to use the suggested text. Instead, they may develop and use their own text and forms to collect the required documents, statements, certifications and signatures. The Department will not be distributing sample worksheets for institutions to use to collect the required documents, statements, certifications, and signatures.
We will be providing more information about the verification suggested text in the coming weeks.
