Subject: Implementation of NSLDS Enrollment Reporting Enhancements
On June 24, 2012 we implemented enhancements to the Enrollment Reporting process in the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS). We first described these changes in Dear Colleague Letter GEN-12-06, posted to the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site on March 30, 2012. As described in the Dear Colleague Letter, we are enhancing the Enrollment Reporting process to ensure the accuracy of enrollment reporting as well as to allow greater flexibility for reporting. The enhancements include new populations for inclusion in the process, additional data elements, enhanced notification files to loan holders, and options for additional loan holders to receive certified enrollment data.
For a complete description of these changes, including important reminders about school NSLDS Enrollment Reporting responsibilities, schools should carefully review Dear Colleague Letter GEN-12-06. In addition, the corresponding system changes to NSLDS and to the NSLDS Professional Access Web site were described in an April 6, 2012 electronic announcement, and the new Enrollment Reporting file layouts were posted on April 6, 2012 in the NSLDS Record Layouts section on the IFAP Web site.
With the implementation of the enhancements to NSLDS this past weekend, we will provide additional technical information about the changes to the Enrollment Reporting process in several forthcoming communications.
An NSLDS Newsletter will describe the enhancements for schools and students, including the new file format choices, Enrollment Administrator options, the new location field, the addition of reporting for Federal Pell Grant and Federal Perkins Loan recipients, new data items, student address reporting, and related enhancements to the NSLDS Student Access Web site.
To provide technical information about the NSLDS Enrollment Reporting and Notification enhancements for guaranty agencies (GAs), lenders and lender servicers, and Perkins data providers, we will also post an NSLDS GA Technical Update, an NSLDS Technical Update for Lenders, and a Federal Perkins Technical Update on the IFAP Web site.
Please monitor the NSLDS Reference Materials section of the IFAP Web site for the upcoming availability of these communications. In addition, users may access information about the enhancements on the NSLDS Professional Access Web site by clicking on the question mark icon for Help text on the updated Web pages.
Later this summer we will post an updated NSLDS Enrollment Reporting Guide to the IFAP Web site. The guide will be updated to include information on a new Excel online upload process and tools for schools to monitor their enrollment certifications.
