Subject: Upcoming SAIG Message Class File Update

On March 5, 2012, we will send the message class "MESSAGTB" via the Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) to all user mailboxes. The EDconnect transmission software will automatically request, download, and import this new message class table with a user’s next connection to the SAIG network. Once the MESSAGTB file has been imported, the new message class table will be used from that point forward.

Message Classes

We will add new message classes for the Central Processing System (CPS), the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System, and the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS).

CPS Message Class

We will add a new cyclical message class for the CPS to the message class table. This message class will be used in conjunction with the 2012-2013 version of the ISIR Analysis Tool. The 2012-2013 ISIR Analysis Tool will be released later this year and will be available through the FAA Access Main Menu of the FAA Access to CPS Online Web site. Please monitor the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site about the availability of the 2012-2013 ISIR Analysis Tool.

The message class is as follows:

COD Message Classes

We will add COD System 2012-2013 Rollover Message Classes to the message class table. These message classes are the standard COD System message classes rolled over from the previous award year to the 2012-2013 Award Year.

Rollover COD System message classes are fully outlined in Volume II, Section 2 of the 2012-2013 COD Technical Reference and will be in use after the March 10, 2012 implementation of COD System functionality for the 2012-2013 Award Year.

NSLDS Message Classes

We will add new non-cyclical message classes for the NSLDS to the message class table. These new message classes will be used to support upcoming enhancements to the NSLDS Enrollment Reporting and Notification processes planned for June 2012. The new message classes will also be used for additional reporting file format options. Please monitor the IFAP Web site for a forthcoming NSLDS Newsletter describing these future enhancements and additional reporting file format options.

The message classes are as follows:

Message Class Description
EFSFLEIN Enrollment File Submittal- Fixed Length
EFSCDEIN Enrollment File Submittal- Comma Delimited
EFSXMLIN Enrollment File Submittal- XML
EFRFLEOP Enrollment File Roster - Fixed Length

EFRXMLOP Enrollment File Roster - XML

The message class table update will be transparent to users except for an Import dialog box, which will appear on a user’s screen and display the progress of the import as the file is importing.

The new message class table file will also be available on the Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site in the "Software and Associated Documents" section.

Using Multiple Networked PCs

If a user has performed a network installation of EDconnect, the new message class table will import into the EDconnect database on the user’s network drive. Individual workstations will all have access to the new message class table after it has been imported.

Using Multiple Stand-Alone PCs

If using the current version of EDconnect, the message class table will automatically download and update EDconnect on each PC that initiates a transmission.
