Subject: 2012-2013 EDE Technical Reference (January 2012 Update)
We are pleased to announce the posting of the updated 2012-2013 Electronic Data Exchange (EDE) Technical Reference. The EDE Technical Reference provides programmer specifications, record layouts, and other detailed information for schools or other organizations that need to design software systems to interface with the U.S. Department of Education's application processing system.
The recently enacted Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2012 made several changes to the Title IV student assistance programs. Among them is a reduction in the maximum income that makes an applicant eligible for an automatic zero EFC (auto zero EFC). Prior to this change the income threshold for the 2012-2013 Award Year would have been $32,000. Under the amended law that amount is $23,000.
Therefore, we revised the auto zero EFC threshold to $23,000 throughout the updated 2012-2013 EDE Technical Reference. We also corrected an NSLDS Direct Loan Master Prom Note Flag field value in the ISIR Record Description/Data Dictionary in the Record Layouts section. For more information about these changes, consult the tracking log of changes posted with the reference as an appendix.
For more information about our operational implementation of changes related to the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2012, refer to the electronic announcement posted on December 27, 2011 to the IFAP Web site.
In addition to its current availability on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site, the guide will also be available in the next several days from the Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site, located at https://www.fsadownload.ed.gov.
