Subject: Availability of EDExpress for Windows 2011-2012, Release 4.0

We are pleased to announce the posting of EDExpress for Windows 2011-2012, Release 4.0, on the Department's Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site, located at https://www.fsadownload.ed.gov.

Release 4.0 includes updates to Global and App Express functionality to coincide with the Central Processing System (CPS) modification implemented on October 23, 2011 that now assigns pseudo-Social Security Numbers (SSNs) starting with “666” to Pacific Island students. This change is a result of new guidelines implemented by the Social Security Administration (SSA) for assigning SSNs. The software change should be transparent to you when using the EDExpress interface with the FAA Access to CPS Online Web site to file applications or corrections for Pacific Island students.

For more information on the changes we implemented to our systems on October 23, 2011, including to the CPS and the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System, to accommodate the new SSA guidelines, see the electronic announcement posted on October 7, 2011 to the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site.

Release 4.0 also incorporates updates to the Direct Loan module, including a new import edit report value for the MPN Status value of R sent by the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System and minor updates to labels printed on the Spanish version of the MPN.

In addition to the Release 4.0 software, the EDExpress for Windows 2011-2012, Release 4.0 Cover Letter, which provides information regarding enhancements and other updates in Release 4.0, is now available on the FSAdownload Web site.

The Installation Guide for EDExpress for Windows 2011-2012, also available on the FSAdownload Web site, contains important technical information and guidance regarding EDExpress 2011-2012 that you should review.
