Subject: 2011-2012 ISIR Guide (August 2011 Update)

We are pleased to announce the posting of the updated 2011-2012 ISIR Guide. The ISIR Guide assists financial aid administrators (FAAs) in interpreting student information on the Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR). ISIRs contain processed student information reported on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), as well as key processing results and National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) financial aid history information. ISIRs are sent electronically to institutions by the Central Processing System (CPS).

The August 2011 update includes a revision to delete reject reason P (Invalid SSN Range) as a result of the new Social Security Administration (SSA) guidelines for assigning Social Security Numbers (SSNs). Refer to the electronic announcements posted on June 23, 2011 and July 8, 2011 to the IFAP Web site for more information about this change.

Note: This change to reject reason P will be effective after we implement changes to Federal Student Aid systems in late October 2011 to accommodate the new SSN assignment guidelines. Please monitor the IFAP Web site for a forthcoming communication about the October 2011 system change.

For information about all revisions included in this update to the 2011-2012 ISIR Guide, consult the tracking log of changes posted with the reference and in the Appendix.

In addition to its current availability on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site, the guide will also be available in the next several days from the Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site, located at https://www.fsadownload.ed.gov.
