Federal Student Aid is responsible for administering all aspects of the operations for the student financial assistance programs authorized under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended. One of the key responsibilities of the Internal/External Communications Branch is developing and delivering high quality publications and Web products to assist participating schools in administering the Title IV programs. The Publications Team is responsible for developing the Federal Student Aid Handbook and The Blue Book that consolidate regulatory, policy, and operational guidance to the nearly 7,000 institutions that participate in the federal student aid programs.

Major Duties

  • Applying knowledge of the federal student aid programs, the incumbent uses plain language, to create print, Web, and other information products such as the Federal Student Aid Handbook, The Blue Book, and the Foreign School Handbook.

  • Upon receipt of a policy inquiry, the incumbent reviews pertinent laws, regulations, program guidance, and previous responses in order to identify the organization’s position on questions of policy and prepare responses to those inquiries.

  • Serves as an agency expert/consultant on assigned areas of responsibility responding to requests for assistance with complex operational issues by identifying the unit responsible for providing the relevant service, consulting with the appropriate program experts, and either ─ providing guidance or referring the customer to the correct operational area.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Selective Factor

  • You must have experience administering the Title IV federal student aid programs at a postsecondary school and/or guaranty agency.
