Subject: Federal Perkins Loan Program Liquidation E-mail Address

We are pleased to announce the creation of a new Department of Education (Department) e-mail address to facilitate the process for schools discontinuing participation in the Federal Perkins Loan (Perkins Loan) Program and liquidating their Perkins Loan portfolios. The new e-mail address is perkinsliquid@ed.gov.

The specific purpose of the perkinsliquid@ed.gov mailbox is for communication between schools and the Department’s Perkins Liquidation Team concerning the Perkins Loan portfolio liquidation process.

Intent to Liquidate

A school entering the Perkins Loan liquidation process may use the mailbox to officially notify the Department of its intent to liquidate its Perkins Loan portfolio.

Liquidation Process Questions and Documentation

A school that has notified the Department of its intent to liquidate its Perkins Loan portfolio should use the mailbox to:

  • Complete the Perkins Loan liquidation process by forwarding a letter (as prescribed in the Perkins Loan Liquidation Procedures) to the Department, allowing the Perkins Liquidation Team to reconcile the final FISAP data as submitted by the school.
  • Forward the independent Perkins Program Audit or portion of the audit that contains the specific Perkins Loan liquidation information as prescribed in the Perkins Loan Liquidation Procedures.
  • Request a list of loans reported by the school to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS).

Contact Information

Perkins Loan liquidation questions and information should be sent via e-mail to perkinsliquid@ed.gov.
