Subject: Total and Permanent Disability Discharge Information - Processing of Electronic Veterans Application Referrals by Nelnet Total and Permanent Disability Servicer Now Available
In a June 6, 2011 Electronic Announcement on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site, we announced that the Nelnet Total and Permanent Disability Servicer began processing veterans total and permanent disability discharge referrals on June 1, 2011. The Nelnet Total and Permanent Disability Servicer is now the one entity that processes and services all total and permanent disability discharge assignments and referrals—both general (non veterans) and veterans—for the Department.
The June 6th announcement also informed the community that the processing of veterans electronic application referrals and the related Web address would be effective July 1, 2011. We are pleased to announce that veterans electronic application referrals may now be submitted via www.vetstudentloanassistance.com.
The Nelnet Total and Permanent Disability Servicer can assist with questions related to the electronic application referral process.

The contact information for borrowers includes a reference to the Nelnet Total and Permanent Disability Servicer’s Special Assistance Team. This team is available to individuals who have special needs and require assistance navigating the total and permanent disability discharge process. A borrower simply needs to request assistance when he or she contacts the Nelnet Total and Permanent Disability Servicer.
