Subject: Total and Permanent Disability Discharge Information - Successful Transition to Nelnet Total and Permanent Disability Servicer for Veterans Processing Completed June 1, 2011
In a May 27, 2011 Electronic Announcement posted on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site, we informed the community that the Nelnet Total and Permanent Disability Servicer (located in Denver, CO) would soon begin processing and servicing all veterans total and permanent disability discharge referrals on behalf of the Department of Education (the Department).
We completed the necessary preparatory work, and the Nelnet Total and Permanent Disability Servicer began veterans processing on June 1, 2011. With the completion of this transition, the Nelnet Total and Permanent Disability Servicer is now the one entity that processes and services all total and permanent disability discharge assignments and referrals—both general (non veterans) and veterans—for the Department.
Veterans Processing and Customer Service Going Forward
As stated above and explained in the May 27th announcement, the Nelnet Total and Permanent Disability Servicer will now process and service all veterans total and permanent disability discharge referrals. Accordingly, we have updated the following IFAP Contact Information pages:
-
The Total and Permanent Disability Discharge and Veterans Disability Discharge page under Service Centers for Schools provides updated contact information for loan holders and schools.
-
The Total and Permanent Disability Discharge and Veterans Disability Discharge page under Service Centers for Students provides updated contact information for borrowers.
The updated contact information for borrowers includes a reference to the Nelnet Total and Permanent Disability Servicer’s Special Assistance Team.
