Subject: Upcoming SAIG Message Class File Update

On September 19, 2010, we will send the message class "MESSAGTB" via the Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) to all user mailboxes. The EDconnect transmission software will automatically request, download, and import this new message class table with a user’s next connection to the SAIG network. Once the MESSAGTB file has been imported, the new message class table will be used from that point forward.

Message Classes

We will be adding new message classes for the Central Processing System (CPS) and National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS). The new message classes are described below.

CPS Message Classes

We will add the 2011-2012 CPS message classes to the message class table. These message classes are the standard CPS message classes rolled over from the previous cycle to the 2011-2012 cycle and will be fully outlined in the final 2011-2012 Electronic Data Exchange (EDE) Technical Reference. The final 2011-2012 EDE Technical Reference will be posted in October 2010 on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site and the Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site.

Note: The CPS 2011-2012 message classes are being added early for application system testing only. If you use these message classes to send records prior to January 1, 2011 the records will not be processed.

NSLDS Message Classes

We will add new non-cyclical message classes for NSLDS to the message class table. These message classes will be used to send two types of NSLDS reports automatically to schools via the SAIG. The Exit Counseling Completion Results report, first described in NSLDS Newsletter 26, provides assistance with tracking exit counseling completion dates and student data gathered during the exit counseling session available on the NSLDS Student Access Web site. The Delinquent Borrower Report, first described in NSLDS Newsletter 27, provides information on delinquent loans for borrowers reported by the four federal loan servicers. Please monitor the IFAP Web site for a forthcoming NSLDS Newsletter describing the availability of these future enhancements to NSLDS.

The message classes for Exit Counseling Completion Results report are as follows:

Update, Import, and Installation Information

The message class table update will be transparent to users except for an Import dialog box, which will appear on a user’s screen and display the progress of the import as the file is importing.

The new message class table file will also be available on the Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site in the "Software and Associated Documents" section.

Using Multiple Networked PCs

If a user has performed a network installation of EDconnect, the new message class table will import into the EDconnect database on the user’s network drive. Individual workstations will all have access to the new message class table after it has been imported.

Using Multiple Stand-Alone PCs

If using the current version of EDconnect (version 7.2), the message class table will automatically download and update EDconnect on each PC that initiates a transmission.
