Subject: Publication of Title IV NPRM
On July 7, 2010, the Department’s Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE) published a Notice in the Federal Register providing interim final requirements and request for comments regarding SAFRA Act Payments to Loan Servicers for Job Retention. Under this SAFRA Act provision the Secretary is required to provide payments to loan servicers for retaining jobs at locations in the United States where such servicers were operating under the FFEL Program on January 1, 2010. The SAFRA Act authorized and appropriated $25,000,000 for each of FY 2010 and FY 2011 for the Department to make these payments.
The purpose of this announcement is to invite interested parties to participate in a conference call on July 26, 2010, with senior OPE officials to discuss the July 7 notice. The call is an opportunity for interested parties to ask questions about the program. The specifics of the July 26, 2010 conference call are as follows:
