Subject: Exit Counseling Report Enhancements on the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS)
As announced on March 29, 2010, the NSLDS Student Access Web site now offers an exit counseling tool for federal student loan borrowers in both the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) and Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) programs. This tool provides a single exit counseling session for Direct Loan-only borrowers, for FFEL-only borrowers, and for borrowers who have received a combination of loans from both programs. For detailed information about the NSLDS exit counseling tool, see NSLDS Newsletter #26.
We have now enhanced the reports that are available on the NSLDS Professional Access Web site. These reports, which provide assistance with tracking exit counseling completion dates and student data gathered during the counseling session, now offer new reporting flexibility for schools with multiple locations. In addition, reporting functionality for lenders and lender servicers has been enhanced and is also now available to guaranty agencies (GAs).
In this announcement we provide more information about these report enhancements in the following order:
- Report Enhancements for Schools
- Report Enhancements for Lenders/Lender Servicers
- Report Functionality Added for GAs
- Future Enhancements
- Contact Information
Report Enhancements for Schools
The Exit Counseling Completion Results report that schools may request on the NSLDS Professional Access Web site has now been enhanced to offer expanded report parameters for schools with more than one location. Schools may now request a report for students attending a single location (using the eight-digit OPEID code), or request a single report for students at all locations (using the six-digit OPEID code).
We have posted an updated NSLDS Record Layout (EXTC01) on the IFAP Web site to provide technical information about the enhanced reporting functionality for schools.
Note: We have also provided an updated NSLDS Record Layout (PLPED3) on the IFAP Web site for the Status of Loans Purchased By ED Report for Schools. The report parameters have been enhanced to take advantage of the new school code selection option introduced in the Exit Counseling Completion Results report.
Report Enhancements for Lenders/Lender Servicers
The Exit Counseling Completion Results report that lenders and lender servicers may request on the NSLDS Professional Access Web site has also been enhanced to allow greater reporting flexibility. Lenders and lender servicers may now retrieve data at the six-digit school OPEID code level and may also request a report that includes all borrowers with whom they have a relationship, instead of just one borrower per report.
We have posted NSLDS Technical Update for Lenders, LLS-2010-02: Enhancement to the Lender/Lender Servicer Exit Counseling Completion Results Report (EXTC02) and the updated NSLDS Record Layout on the IFAP Web site to provide technical information about the enhanced exit counseling reporting functionality for lenders and lender servicers.
Report Functionality Added for GAs
GAs now have access to the Exit Counseling Completion Results report for student borrowers whose loans they guarantee. We have posted NSLDS Technical Update for Guaranty Agencies, GA-2010-03: GA NSLDS Exit Counseling Tools and Enhanced PLPED1 Report and NSLDS Record Layouts on the IFAP Web site to provide technical information about the new exit counseling reporting functionality for GAs.
Future Enhancements
Later this year, schools will have the ability to automatically receive a report containing exit counseling data via the Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG). These automatic reports will be available in comma-delimited, fixed-length, or preformatted report format, and schools will choose a daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly delivery schedule.
Please monitor the IFAP Web site for forthcoming communications about the availability of this future enhancement to NSLDS exit counseling.
