Subject: 2009-2010 SAR Comment Codes and Text (April 2010 Update)

Federal Student Aid is pleased to announce the posting of the updated 2009-2010 SAR Comment Codes and Text reference guide. The reference guide is designed as a stand-alone guide as well as a companion to the 2009-2010 EDE Technical Reference. The guide includes a description of changes to the Student Aid Report (SAR) comments for 2009-2010, and also provides the complete text for all 2009-2010 comments.

The April 2010 update deletes comment number 147 and revises the wording for comment number 295. In addition, information regarding comment numbers 401-403 and 501-503 has been added. These comment numbers were added for the IRS Data Retrieval process for 2009-2010 FAFSA on the Web which was implemented on January 28, 2010, and which is described in an electronic announcement posted to the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site on November 5, 2009. Comment numbers 401-403 and 501-503 do not have associated text and do not print on the SAR; they will, however, appear in Student Inquiry on the FAA Access to CPS Online Web site and print in the FAA section of the Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR).

We also added an appendix to the guide documenting the changes. For more information, consult the tracking log of changes included in the appendix of the guide and as a separate attachment.

In addition to its current availability on the IFAP Web site, the guide will also be available in the next several days from the Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site, located at
