Subject: Upcoming SAIG Message Class File Update
On March 22, 2010, we will send the message class "MESSAGTB" via the Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) to all user mailboxes. The EDconnect transmission software will automatically request, download, and import this new message class table with a user’s next connection to the SAIG network. Once the MESSAGTB file has been imported, the new message class table will be used from that point forward.
Message Classes
We will add message classes for the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), the Central Processing System (CPS), and the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System.
NSLDS Message Classes
We will add new non-cyclical message classes for NSLDS to the message class table. These message classes will be used for reports associated with two new exit counseling tools that will be available via the NSLDS Student Access Web site in the future. One tool will provide exit counseling for Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) and William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) borrowers, and the other will provide exit counseling for Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant recipients. Please monitor the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site for communications about the availability of these future enhancements to NSLDS.
The message classes for the loan exit counseling reports are as follows:
Message Class | Description |
EXITFFOP | Exit Counsel Rpt Fixed Length |
EXITCMOP | Exit Counsel Rpt Delimited |
EXITFMOP | Exit Counsel Rpt Formatted |
The message classes for the TEACH Grant exit counseling reports are as follows:
Message Class | Description |
EXTHFFOP | TEACH Exit Counsel Fix Length |
EXTHCMOP | TEACH Exit Counsel Delimited |
EXTHFMOP | TEACH Exit Counsel Formatted |
CPS Message Class
We will add the 2010-2011 CPS message class IATX11OP to the message class table. A school will use this new message class to accommodate files it generates when using the export feature of the ISIR Analysis Tool available through FAA Access to CPS Online.
The message class is as follows:
Message Class | Description |
IATX11OP | IA TOOL SSN LIST EXPORT |
COD System Message Classes
We will add COD System 2010-2011 Rollover Message Classes to the message class table. These message classes are the standard COD System message classes rolled over from the previous award year to the 2010-2011 Award Year.
We will also add two new message classes for the COD System to the message class table. A school will receive acknowledgements in these message classes when borrowers use new Direct PLUS Loan and entrance counseling functionality. Please monitor the IFAP Web site for forthcoming communications about the availability of this new COD System functionality.
The message classes are as follows:
Message Class | Description |
CRSP11OP | DL PLUS Application Acknowledgement |
CRECMYOP | DL Entrance Counseling Acknowledgement |
Both rollover and new COD System message classes are fully outlined in Volume II, Section 2 and Volume III, Section 2 of the 2010-2011 COD Technical Reference and will be in use after the March 26-27, 2010 implementation of COD System functionality for the 2010-2011 Award Year.
Note: The new message class table and the 2010-2011 COD Technical Reference include message classes in preparation for potential changes to the Federal Perkins Loan Program proposed in pending legislation. After final legislation is enacted, we will communicate operational guidance about implementation of Perkins changes and explain the use of these messages classes.
Update, Import, and Installation Information
The message class table update will be transparent to users except for an Import dialog box, which will appear on a user’s screen and display the progress of the import as the file is importing.
The new message class table file will also be available on the Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site in the "Software and Associated Documents" section.Using Multiple Networked PCs
If a user has performed a network installation of EDconnect, the new message class table will import into the EDconnect database on the user’s network drive. Individual workstations will all have access to the new message class table after it has been imported.
Using Multiple Stand-Alone PCs
If using the current version of EDconnect (version 7.2), the message class table will automatically download and update EDconnect on each PC that initiates a transmission.
