Subject: Upcoming Negotiated Rulemaking Fields Hearings and Public Forums
The purpose of this Electronic Announcement is to remind the public of the three public hearings that will be held by the Department in preparation for the next set of negotiated rulemaking sessions for the Title IV student assistance programs. It also provides a reminder of the two special public forums that will be held the day following each of the negotiated rulemaking hearings. The announcement also clarifies the dates for each of the meetings.
On May 26, 2009, we published a notice in the Federal Register announcing our intention to establish negotiated rulemaking committees, and the three related public hearings where interested parties may suggest issues that should be considered for action by the negotiating committees. We also announced that on the day after each of the three hearings, we will be conducting two special forums to discuss (1) how changes to the Department's financial aid communications and processes (including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) could improve college planning, preparation and access; and (2) how best to leverage federal postsecondary programs to foster student educational persistence and degree attainment.
