Subject: Redesigned Direct Loan Web Site Now Implemented

Over the past several months, we have taken the opportunity to update the "look and feel" of the Direct Loan Web site to match other Federal Student Aid Web sites. In addition, the redesign process allowed us to build on the existing site with reorganized material and expanded options for schools and students as well as a new section for parents. With the work complete, we are pleased to announce a fresh, new look for the Direct Loan Web Site.

While updating the look, we have maintained separate sections for our target audiences.

For Aid Professionals - We reorganized material for easier navigation, expanded the section for schools new to or interested in the Direct Loan Program, and added a "Links" section for easy access to the systems and sites used most.

For Students - We expanded the available material and reorganized it, so students can find information based on where they are in the process.

For Parents - We added a new section for parents to learn about the Direct Loan Program and their loan options.

We invite schools to explore the improved Direct Loan Web site: www.direct.ed.gov. Please note that the URL for the Web site has changed. While previous URLs will continue to work, we encourage schools to begin to use the new URL for any saved browser bookmarks and links to the Direct Loan Web site on school Web sites, or in communications to staff and borrowers.

New URL effective April 17, 2009… www.direct.ed.gov
