Subject: Reminder - Electronic Process for 2009-2010 Federal Work-Study Program Community Service Waiver Requests
This is a reminder that schools seeking a waiver to one or both of the community service expenditure requirements under the Federal Work-Study (FWS) Program for the 2009-2010 Award Year must submit requests to the Department of Education electronically via the eCampus-Based (eCB) Web site at https://cbfisap.ed.gov/.
In the past, we accepted waiver requests via mail and fax. However, as published in the Federal Register on March 17, 2009 (74 FR 11362) and explained in a March 24, 2009 Electronic Announcement posted on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site, the waiver request and justification must be submitted electronically via the Internet. Waiver requests received in any other format will be not be processed.
To access the electronic waiver request, log in to the eCB Web site and go to the “Community Service Waiver” link at the top of the Setup – Change Years/Schools page. A school’s waiver request must –
Specify whether the school is requesting a waiver of the seven percent community service requirement, the reading tutors of children or family literacy project requirement, or both; and
Include detailed information to demonstrate that complying with the requirement(s) would cause hardship for the school’s students.
The deadline for electronic submission of a school’s waiver request is 11:59 P.M. (ET) on Friday, April 24, 2009. Transmissions must be completed and accepted by 12:00 midnight. Waiver requests that are received after April 24, 2009 will not be considered.
For complete information about 2009-2010 FWS community service waiver requests, refer to the March 24 th Electronic Announcement.
