Summary: Issue Resolution – Network Outage Impacting Access to Certain Federal Student Aid Web sites and Limiting Federal Student Aid Information Center Support Options

Posted on 09-09-2008

In a September 8, 2008 Electronic Announcement on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site, we informed schools of a network outage that began late in the afternoon of September 8, 2008 and prevented access to the following Federal Student Aid Web sites:

  • Direct Loan Electronic Master Promissory Note (MPN)
  • FAA Access to CPS Online
  • Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) Enrollment
  • Student Authentication Network (STAN)

This outage also prevented Federal Student Aid Information Center (FSAIC) representatives from accessing Federal Student Aid mainframe systems to address applicant data inquiries.

We fully resolved the network outage issue at 10:00 A.M. (ET) on Tuesday, September 9, 2008. All affected FSA Web sites and services are functional again.

Note Regarding Conflicting Communications: We acknowledge that some conflicting communications about the resolution of the network outage issue were posted to the FSATech listserv on September 8, 2008 after we posted our preliminary alert message. We apologize for the confusion caused by these subsequent FSATech postings and are evaluating our procedures to ensure that this does not occur in the future.

Again, we apologize for the inconvenience caused by this network outage issue and, as always, will continue to closely monitor operations. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
