Summary: Upcoming SAIG Message Class File Update

Posted on 07-25-2008

On July 31, 2008, Federal Student Aid will send the message class "MESSAGTB" via the Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) to all user mailboxes. The EDconnect transmission software will automatically request, download, and import this new message class table with your next connection to the SAIG network. Once the MESSAGTB file has been imported, the new message class table will be used from that point forward.

Message Classes

Federal Student Aid will add message classes for the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System and the Financial Management System (FMS) to the message class table.

COD System Message Classes

Federal Student Aid will add six new 2008-2009 COD System message classes for the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program to the message class table. These new TEACH Grant message classes will be fully outlined in Volume II, Section 2 of the 2008-2009 COD Technical Reference by the end of July 2008 and will be in use after the September 26-27, 2008 implementation of additional COD System functionality to support TEACH Grant report functionality.

The message classes are as follows:

Message Class Description
THMR09OP TEACH Multiple Report Record
THIGPFOP TEACH Inactive Grant Report
THPD09OP TEACH Pending Disburse List
THSM09OP TEACH Monthly SAS
THSY09OP TEACH Yearly SAS
THSNPFOP TEACH SSN/Name/DOB Change

Federal Student Aid will add eight new COD System message classes for the CommonLine Transformation Engine (CTE) to the message class table. These new CTE message classes will be used to support the acceptance, conversion, and processing of CommonLine Version 4 and Version 5 flat file records from schools that transition from the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program into the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program and need to use the CTE solution on a temporary basis. We do not anticipate maintaining this solution beyond the 2008-2009 Award Year.

The message classes are as follows:

Message Class Description
CLV409IN CTE4 (ED USE ONLY)
CLV409OP CTE4 (ED USE ONLY)
CLV509IN CTE5 (ED USE ONLY)
CLV509OP CTE5 (ED USE ONLY)
CLT409IN Test CTE4 (ED USE ONLY)
CLT409OP Test CTE4 (ED USE ONLY)
CLT509IN Test CTE5 (ED USE ONLY)
CLT509OP Test CTE5 (ED USE ONLY)

Note: The descriptions for the CTE message classes include "ED USE ONLY" because we will work directly with schools in need of the CTE solution. Additional information about our implementation of the CTE solution will be available in an Electronic Announcement posted on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site.

FMS Message Classes

Federal Student Aid will add four new FMS message classes to the message class table. These new FMS message classes will be used by FFEL Program lenders to support the processing of weekly funding requests and monthly reports related to Participation Interest.

The message classes are as follows:

Message Class Description
WKPARTIN Weekly Part Funding Request
MOPARTIN Monthly Participation Request (Note: This is a report.)
TWKPRTIN Test Weekly Part Funding
TMOPRTIN Test Monthly Participation (Note: This is a report.)

Update, Import, and Installation Information

The message class table update will be transparent to you except for an Import dialog box, which will appear on your screen and display the progress of the import as the file is importing.

The new message class table file is also available on the Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site, located at http://fsadownload.ed.gov, in the "Software and Associated Documents" section.

Using Multiple Networked PCs

If you have performed a network installation of EDconnect, the new message class table will import into the EDconnect database on your network drive. Individual workstations will all have access to the new message class table after it has been imported.

Using Multiple Stand-Alone PCs

If you are using the current version of EDconnect (version 7.2), the message class table will automatically download and update EDconnect on each PC that initiates a transmission.
