Summary: Increase to COD System Capacity - Implementation of Report Retirement Plan
Posted on 07-03-2008
On a regular basis, Federal Student Aid maintains and enhances the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System. Increased system capacity is one of the many important reasons for our ongoing maintenance and enhancement activities. Over the next several months, we will complete a series of activities that are specifically targeted to increase COD System capacity. In addition to supporting our ongoing efforts related to increasing system capacity, these activities will assist us in handling increased William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program volume as necessary.
We plan to complete the first phase of our work on Friday, July 11, 2008. Through this work, we will implement a retirement plan for certain reports generated by the COD System. As a general rule, the impacted reports are not needed by a school after a prescribed period of time and will no longer be sent to a school’s Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) mailbox or available in the school’s COD Reporting NewsBox on the COD Web site. In addition, some reports will no longer be available in PDF format on the COD Web site.
In this announcement, we provide the following important information related to the implementation:
COD Reporting NewsBox Outage Information
In order to implement the COD report retirement plan, the COD Reports area of the COD Web site will be unavailable from Noon until 10:00 P.M. (ET) on Friday, July 11, 2008. During this period, a school will not be able to access reports through its COD Reporting NewsBox.
COD Report Retirement Plan Effective July 11, 2008
As explained above, on July 11, 2008, we will implement a retirement plan for certain reports generated by the COD System. These reports will no longer be generated by the COD System and sent to a school’s SAIG mailbox or available in the school’s COD Reporting NewsBox on the COD Web site once a prescribed period has expired. In addition, some reports will no longer be available in PDF format on the COD Web site.
The impacted reports can be categorized as follows:
In the attachment to this announcement titled "COD Report Retirement Plan Effective July 11, 2008," we list the impacted reports under each of the three categories and provide COD System generation and SAIG/COD Reporting NewsBox availability information. The information provided in the attachment will be effective after we complete our work on July 11, 2008 and will apply going forward. We will incorporate the information into the 2008-2009 COD Technical Reference later in July 2008.
