Summary: Availability of October 2007 Update to 2007-2008 EDE Technical Reference

Posted on 10-18-2007

Federal Student Aid is pleased to announce the availability of the October 2007 update to the 2007-2008 Electronic Data Exchange (EDE) Technical Reference. The EDE Technical Reference provides programmer specifications, record layouts, and other detailed information for schools or other organizations that need to design software systems to interface with the U.S. Department of Education's application processing system.

The October 2007 update to the 2007-2008 EDE Technical Reference includes revisions to the Record Layouts section to update the Valid Content for the Electronic Transaction Indicator (ETI) Destination Number (Field #129 of the ISIR Record Description/Data Dictionary). The ETI represents the TG number assigned to your school by Federal Student Aid's Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG). In order to address the increased number of users requiring authentication for the SAIG, TG numbers can now contain alpha-numeric characters in the third position (after "TG"), such as TGA0001.

Note: Users with existing, all-numeric TG numbers, such as TG50001, are not affected by this change.

The updated 2007-2008 EDE Technical Reference, including a tracking log of changes, is available in PDF format on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site, located at http://ifap.ed.gov. For readers who are viewing this message electronically on IFAP, the documents are provided as attachments to this message. Otherwise, to view, print, or download the documents from IFAP, go to http://ifap.ed.gov and click on "Application Processing Materials" from the right side of the home page.

The updated 2007-2008 EDE Technical Reference will also be available in the next several days from the Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site, located at http://fsadownload.ed.gov, under "Technical References and Guides."
