Publication Date: August 24, 2007 Author: William Leith, Acting General Manager, Application, Operations and Delivery Services, Federal Student Aid Summary: Upcoming SAIG Message Class File Update Posted on 08-24-2007 On September 1, 2007, Federal Student Aid will send the message class "MESSAGTB" via the Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) to all user mailboxes. The EDconnect transmission software will automatically request, download, and import this new message class table with your next connection to the SAIG network. Once the MESSAGTB file has been imported, the new message class table will be used from that point forward. Message Classes The new message class table will add message classes for the Central Processing System (CPS), the Conditional Disability Discharge Tracking System (CDDTS), the Debt Management Collection System (DMCS), and the Direct Loan Servicing System (DLSS). CPS Message Classes The new message class table will reflect the standard CPS message classes rolled over from the previous cycle to the 2008-2009 cycle. These message classes will be fully outlined in the final 2008-2009 Electronic Data Exchange (EDE) Technical Reference, which will be posted in October 2007 on the Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site, located at http://fsadownload.ed.gov, in the "Technical References and Guides" section. Note: The CPS 2008-2009 message classes are being added early for application system testing only. If you use these message classes to send records prior to January 1, 2008, the records will not be processed. CDDTS Message Class The new message class table will add one new message class for the CDDTS process that will be used by Guaranty Agencies (GAs) to assign conditionally discharged loans to the CDDTS. Update, Import, and Installation Information The message class table update will be transparent to you except for an Import dialog box, which will appear on your screen and display the progress of the import as the file is importing. The new message class table file is also available on the FSAdownload Web site, located at http://fsadownload.ed.gov, in the "Software and Associated Documents" section. Using Multiple Networked PCs If you have performed a network installation of EDconnect, the new message class table will import into the EDconnect database on your network drive. Individual workstations will all have access to the new message class table after it has been imported. Using Multiple Stand-Alone PCs If you are using the current version of EDconnect (version 7.1), the message class table will automatically download and update EDconnect on each PC that initiates a transmission.
