Summary: Upcoming SAIG Message Class File Update

Posted on 04-04-2007

On April 6, 2007, Federal Student Aid will send the message class "MESSAGTB" via the Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) to all user mailboxes. EDconnect will automatically request, download, and import this new message class table with your next connection to the SAIG network. Once the MESSAGTB file has been imported, the new message class table will be used from that point forward.

Message Classes

The new message class table will add message classes for the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System, Debt Collection Service (DCS), and Direct Loan Servicing.

COD Message Classes

The new message class table will reflect the standard COD System messages classes rolled over from 2006-2007. These messages classes are fully outlined in Volume II, Section 2 and Volume III, Section 2 of the 2007-2008 COD Technical Reference on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site, located at http://ifap.ed.gov.

Note: As explained in an Electronic Announcement posted on December 11, 2006, all 2006-2007 Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) and National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (National SMART Grant) report message classes will be used beginning with the implementation of the COD System for the 2007-2008 Award Year. This implementation is planned for April 13-14, 2007.

DCS Message Classes

The new message class table will add three new message classes for the DCS National Directory of New Hires (NDNH) process that will be used by Guarantee Agencies (GAs) to exchange data with Borrower Services. These message classes are as follows:

Message Class Description
NDNHRQIN GA NDNH Match Request File
NDNHEROP NDNH Return Error File
NDNHMAOP NDNH Return Match File

Direct Loan Servicing Message Classes

The new message class table will add the 2007-2008 Direct Loan Servicing Delinquency Borrower reports, plus the Entrance and Exit Counseling results message classes. These message classes are as follows:

Message Class Description
DECC08OP Entrance Counseling Comma Delimited
DECF08OP Entrance Counseling Fixed Length
DECP08OP Entrance Counseling Pre-formatted
DLCM08OP Exit Counseling Comma Delimited
DLFF08OP Exit Counseling Fixed Length
DLFM08OP Exit Counseling Pre-formatted
DQBD08OP Borrower Delinquency Data Format
ED0408OP Borrower Delinquency Pre-formatted

Note: These Direct Loan Servicing messages classes are also included in Volume II, Section 2 of the 2007-2008 COD Technical Reference on the IFAP Web site, located at http://ifap.ed.gov.

Update, Import, and Installation Information

The message class table update will be transparent to you except for an Import dialog box, which will appear on your screen and display the progress of the import as the file is importing.

The new message class table file is also available on the Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site, located at http://fsadownload.ed.gov, in the "Software and Associated Documents" section.

Using Multiple Networked PCs

If you have performed a network installation of EDconnect, the new message class table will import into the EDconnect database on your network drive. Individual workstations will all have access to the new message class table after it has been imported.

Using Multiple Stand-Alone PCs

If you are using the current version of EDconnect (version 7.1), the message class table will automatically download and update EDconnect on each PC that initiates a transmission.
