Summary: Upcoming SAIG Message Class File Update

Posted on 12-11-2006

On December 15, 2006 the Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) will send out the message class "MESSAGTB" to all user mailboxes. EDconnect will automatically request, download, and import this new message class table with your next connection to the SAIG network. Once the MESSAGTB file has been imported, the new message class table will be used from that point forward.

The new message class table will add 2006-2007 Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) and National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (National SMART Grant) message classes for the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System. ACG and National SMART Grant are the two new grant programs established by the Higher Education Reconciliation Act of 2005 (the HERA), Pub. L. 109-171, and are being implemented operationally in phases. For regulatory, policy, and operational information regarding the ACG and National SMART Grant programs, refer to the numerous Dear Colleague Letters, Electronic Announcements, and technical references/guides posted on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site, located at http://ifap.ed.gov.

On June 30, 2006, some 2006-2007 ACG and National SMART Grant message classes needed earlier in the year for the COD System and the Central Processing System (CPS) were added to the message class table. The December 15th message class table will include the remaining 2006-2007 ACG and National SMART Grant message classes for the COD System.

The following 2006-2007 ACG and National SMART Grant message classes will be in use after the December 16, 2006 implementation of additional COD System functionality to support ACG and National SMART Grant origination and disbursement processing and have been added to the message class table:

Message Class Description

CRSGMYIN SMART COMMON RECORD DOCUMENTS
CRSG07IN 06-07 SMART COMMON RECORD DOCUMENTS

The following 2006-2007 ACG and National SMART Grant message classes will be in use after the April 14, 2007 implementation of 2007-2008 COD System functionality and have been added to the message class table:

NOTE: The 2006-2007 ACG and National SMART Grant message classes that will be in use after the April 14, 2007 implementation of 2007-2008 COD System functionality are related to ACG and National SMART Grant reports. If a school submits the AGRQ07IN (06-07 ACG Data Request) and SGRQ07IN (06-07 SMART Data Request) message classes to the COD System prior to April 14, 2007, they will NOT be processed.

The message class table update will be transparent to you except for an Import dialog box, which will appear on your screen and display the progress of the import as the file is importing.

The new message class table file is also available on the Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site, located at http://fsadownload.ed.gov, in the "Software and Associated Documents" section.

USING MULTIPLE NETWORKED PCs:

If you have performed a network installation of EDconnect, the new message class table will import into the EDconnect database on your network drive. Individual workstations will all have access to the new message class table after it has been imported.

USING MULTIPLE STAND-ALONE PCs:

If you are using the current version of EDconnect (version 7.1), the message class table will automatically download and update EDconnect on each PC that initiates a transmission.
