Summary: Updated Section 3 (Record Layouts) of 2007-2008 EDE Technical Reference Is Now Available

Posted on 11-28-2006

Federal Student Aid is posting a revised version of Section 3 (Record Layouts) of the 2007-2008 Electronic Data Exchange (EDE) Technical Reference to correct several issues in the version posted earlier this month.

The EDE Technical Reference provides record layouts for schools or other organizations that need to design software systems to interface with the U.S. Department of Education's application processing system to process student financial aid applications.

The updated Section 3 includes the following revisions to the ISIR Record Description/Data Dictionary section:

1) We added "Blank" as Valid Content for "Interested in Work-Study or Student Loans?" (ISIR field number 29).

2) We corrected the Valid Content for the three NSLDS ACG Eligibility Code fields (ISIR field numbers 382, 392, and 402) to be 01 (High School Program), 02 (Advanced Placement [AP]/International Baccalaureate [IB] Courses), and 03 (High School Coursework). In the prior version of Section 3, the valid values were listed as 01, 03, and 04, respectively, and the description for 04 (now 03) was listed as "Rigorous High School Programs."

3) We corrected the Valid Content column for the three NSLDS SMART Grant Classification of Instructional Programs Code fields (ISIR field numbers 412, 421, and 430) to indicate the field content type is "character." In the prior version of Section 3 we incorrectly indicated these three fields were "numeric."

The updated Table of Contents, Section 3, and a tracking log of changes are available in PDF format on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site, located at http://ifap.ed.gov.
