Publication Date: October 20, 2006 Author: G. Kay Jacks, General Manager, Application, Operations and Delivery Services, Federal Student Aid Summary: National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) Postscreening error affecting Aid Overpayments and ISIRs Posted on 10-20-2006 The U.S. Department of Education would like to alert the financial aid community of an NSLDS postscreening system error that affected Aid Overpayments and Institutional Student Information Records (ISIRs) from July 1, to September 1, 2006. NSLDS experienced the postscreening processing error after implementing system changes on July 1, 2006. The error caused approximately 1,100 postscreening ISIRs to be generated with postscreening reason code "02" (Student became obligated for a new overpayment of a Title IV grant or loan). In actuality, the student may already have an existing overpayment or an overpayment in repayment or satisfactory arrangement made status, which would require no resolution. To ensure that all schools have the most current student data, the 1,100 affected records have been sent to CPS for reprocessing. The new ISIRs will contain up-to-date overpayment flags and contact information. They can be identified with a CPS process date of October 25, 2006 and a postscreening reason code of "99". For information regarding NSLDS changes implemented due to the Higher Education Reconciliation Act of 2005, please refer to Newsletter 13 under the Reference Materials link on the IFAP Web Site at http://www.ifap.ed.gov/. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused. If you have questions, please contact the NSLDS Customer Service Center at 1-800-999-8219. |
