The Central Processing System (CPS) is pleased to announce the posting of an updated draft of the Specifications for Software Developers for the 2007-2008 cycle. This version updates the original draft posted in mid-August 2006.

The new draft of the 2007-2008 Specifications for Software Developers is available in PDF format on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site, located at http://ifap.ed.gov. For readers who are viewing this message electronically on IFAP, the document is provided as an attachment to this message. Otherwise, to view, print, or download the document from IFAP, go to http://ifap.ed.gov and click on "Application Processing Materials" from the right side of the home page.

The specifications will also be available in the next several days from the Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site, located at http://fsadownload.ed.gov. To locate the specifications for viewing or downloading from the FSAdownload home page, select the "Technical References and Guides" link, then select "2007-2008" under "CPS Test System."

The updated draft includes revisions to the following sections and text:

1) Summary of System Changes

- Notes added to page 2 regarding Income Protection Allowance (IPA) and Asset Conversion Rate changes.

2) Expected Family Contribution (EFC) Formulas (Formula 1, Step 10a; Formula 2, Step 2a; Formula 4, Step 7; Formula 5, Step 2a State and Other Tax Allowance)

- Percentage in last row of table corrected from 2% to 3%.

Please note the CPS will not complete testing of these specifications until January 1, 2007. Software developers should be prepared to receive updates to the specifications until that time.
