Publication Date: August 18, 2006 Author: Jeff Baker, Director Policy Liaison and Implementation, Federal Student Aid Summary: Notice of Negotiated Rulemaking Posted on 08-18-2006 Today we published in the Federal Register a notice announcing our intention to establish up to four negotiated rulemaking committees to prepare proposed regulations for the student assistance programs authorized under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended (HEA). The notice, that is available as a web link from this announcement, also announces a series of four regional hearings where interested parties can suggest issues that should be considered for action by the negotiating committees. Individuals who are unable to attend one of the regional hearings may submit written comments by November 9, 2006. In addition, the notice requests nominations for individual negotiators who represent key stakeholder constituencies that are involved in the student financial assistance programs authorized under Title IV of the HEA to serve on these committees. The deadline date for receiving nominations for negotiators to serve on the negotiating committees is November 9, 2006.
