This version includes changes as a result of the Higher Education Reconciliation Act of 2005 (the HERA), Pub. L. 109-171. More information on the HERA is described in Dear Colleague Letter GEN-06-05 (http://www.ifap.ed.gov/dpcletters/GEN0605.html). Additional changes to the guide have also been made that further clarify data or update inaccuracies. The EDE Technical Reference provides sufficient programmer specifications and information to design or build your own software to complement or take the place of the EDExpress software provided by Federal Student Aid for sending and receiving Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) data. The EDE Technical Reference includes information about record layouts, required edits, print assistance, and reject messages that are applicable for electronic FAFSAs, Institutional Student Information Records (ISIRs), electronic corrections, and signature records. The complete 2006-2007 EDE Technical Reference, as well as each individual updated section and a tracking log of changes, is available in PDF format on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site, located at http://ifap.ed.gov. For readers who are viewing this message electronically on IFAP, the documents are provided as attachments to this message.
