Summary: Program File Available to Resolve EDExpress for Windows 2006-2007, Release 1.0 ISIR Import Issue

Posted on 01-18-2006

CPS/SAIG Technical Support has posted a program file to the U.S. Department of Education's Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site (located at http://fsadownload.ed.gov/) to resolve a software issue in EDExpress for Windows 2006-2007, Release 1.0 that prevents users from importing Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) files that result from combining multiple ISIR files in EDconnect.

** Issue **

The EDconnect software, used to exchange data with the Central Processing System (CPS) and other processors through the Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG), includes a feature that allows users to combine multiple ISIR files into a single ISIR import file. EDExpress users can use this combine feature to avoid importing each ISIR file individually.

However, if you attempt to import a combined ISIR file into EDExpress for Windows 2006-2007, Release 1.0, the software will only import the records in the first set (or "batch") of ISIR records added to the combined file created by EDconnect. Once the import process reaches the second set of records added to the combined file, the software ends the import and generates a "Wrong cycle year in records - must be 7 for the 2006-2007 award year" error message.

** Resolution **

We have posted a Dynamic Link Library (DLL) file named AImportExportDLL7.dll to the FSAdownload Web site to resolve this issue in EDExpress. Once this file is installed, you will be able to import ISIR files into EDExpress that were created by using the combine feature in EDconnect.

** Installing the Program File on your System**

The AImportExportDLL7.dll file should be downloaded and copied into the EDExpress for Windows 2006-2007 program directory of all PC workstations in your office that have Release 1.0 installed.

NOTE: Be sure to close the Release 1.0 program on your PC(s) before performing
this download and copy procedure.

To download the AImportExportDLL7.dll program file, go to http://fsadownload.ed.gov/, click the "Software and Associated Documents" link, and select "EDExpress for Windows 2006-2007, Release 1.0." On the "EDExpress 2006-2007" page, you can initiate the download of the AImportExportDLL7.dll program file by clicking the "AImportExportDLL7.dll" link under the "Software" section. You will receive a message asking if you wish to open the file or save it to your computer. You should choose to save the file to your computer. Please note the following additional tips regarding this process:

1) Save the AImportExportDLL7.dll to the program directory for EDExpress for Windows 2006-2007, Release 1.0 on each PC running Release 1.0. For most users, this is the default directory of C:\Program Files\EDESuite\EDExpress for Windows 2006-2007 (unless you changed this location during the installation process).
2) During the copy procedure, you will receive a prompt asking if you wish to replace the existing AImportExportDLL7.dll file with the new version you are downloading. You should click "Yes" and allow Windows to overwrite the file.
3) You do not need to reboot your PC(s) once the copy procedure is complete in order to resume using Release 1.0.

REMINDER! If your EDExpress for Windows 2006-2007, Release 1.0 database is installed on a network drive, and you have multiple PC workstations accessing that database, you must install the AImportExportDLL7.dll file on EACH workstation.

If you have temporarily disabled the combine feature in EDconnect, you can enable the feature again (once you have the AImportExportDLL7.dll file installed) by following these steps:

1) From the main menu in EDconnect, select File, New, Message Class Manager, and then click OK.
2) Select the "Combine" checkbox for any 2006-2007 ISIR Message Class displayed that you previously cleared the checkbox for.
3) Click Save.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
