Publication Date: December 30, 2005 Author: G. Kay Jacks, General Manager, FSA Application, School Eligibility and Delivery Services Summary: Issues With FAFSA on the Web and FAA Access to CPS Online Web Sites Posted on 12-31-2005 The Central Processing System (CPS) has found two issues caused by the updates to the FAFSA on the Web and FAA Access to CPS Online Web sites on December 27th. The first issue is with the Embedded PIN Application within FAFSA on the Web and the second is with the FAA Electronic Signatures. ** Issue 1 ** On FAFSA on the Web, when an applicant fills out a 2005-2006 application and selects the “Request a PIN” option (for both the student and parent), he or she will receive a “Maintenance Error” message after selecting “Next.” The applicant will have to start the application over and not select the “Request a PIN” option. This only affects 2005-2006 applications when the applicant selects the “Request a PIN” option within the application. Applicants who select “Request a PIN” on 2006-2007 applications (when the 2006-2007 version of FAFSA on the Web goes live on January 1, 2006) will not receive an error message. The Federal Student Aid Information Center (FSAIC)is aware of this issue and customer service representatives will advise students and parents not to request PINs from within the application. They will provide instructions on how to request PINs from the PIN Web site. ** Issue 2 ** In Student Inquiry on FAA Access to CPS Online, an FAA can apply signatures to applications in the Signature Hold File. Once the FAA selects what type of signature to apply and then selects the “Apply Signatures Now” button, the FAA will receive an “FAA Access to CPS Online has encountered an error” message and the signatures will not be applied. This error only occurs for 2005-2006 FAA Electronic Signatures. This issue will not effect any 2006-2007 applications once they become available. Until the issue is resolved, contact CPS/SAIG Technical Support to apply a signature to an application in the Signature Hold File. You will be asked for the student’s Social Security Number and last name. CPS/SAIG Technical Support will provide the student’s information to a support specialist who will release the student from the signature hold file. Once the application is processed, you can use FAA Access to make a correction to apply the signature(s) to the application. The CPS is planning to release a fix for these two issues on January 3, 2006. If you have any questions about this message, contact CPS/SAIG Technical Support at 800/330-5947 (TDD/TTY 800/511-5806), or by e-mail at CPSSAIG@ed.gov. |
