Publication Date: November 22, 2005 Author: Jennifer Douglas, General Manager, Student Aid Awareness and Applicant Products and Services Subject: Tax Line Reference Guide Summary: This letter announces the Tax Line Reference Guide containing complete 2005 IRS tax return line numbers for use in conjunction with the 2006-2007 FAFSA on the Web Worksheet.Posted on 11-22-2005 Dear Partner: In October you received quantities of the redesigned 2006-2007 FAFSA on the Web Worksheet. When we printed the Worksheet, we did not include some 2005 tax return line number references because we learned from the IRS that some were likely to change. Now that the IRS line numbering issue is closed, we are announcing the availability of a two-page document, the "Tax Line Reference Guide," which contains the final 2005 IRS tax line numbers that match the Worksheet questions with missing tax references. The Tax Line Reference Guide can be downloaded from our Web sites immediately and used in conjunction with the previously distributed FAFSA on the Web Worksheet. As you recall, in Dear Partner Letter GEN-05-10, we explained the new distribution strategy developed to promote use of the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet and reduce reliance on the traditional paper FAFSA. In that letter, we promised to print and distribute large quantities of the Worksheet early in October. When we learned of possible late changes to IRS forms, we decided not to include specific tax line references in order to avoid sending out Worksheets with inaccurate IRS form information. There are several ways for you to access the new Tax Line Reference Guide that can be matched with the earlier printed Worksheets. A PDF file of the Tax Line Reference Guide is available now on IFAP, on the Counselor's Web site, and on www.studentaid.ed.gov. We are working with the Government Printing Office to obtain printed quantities of the Tax Line Reference Guide and expect them to be available the week of December 12. You may begin ordering copies of the Guide at www.fsapubs.org now. We have also posted PDF files of the final FAFSA on the Web Worksheet, which contains all 2005 IRS tax line references, on our Web sites. These PDF files are available in English and Spanish, and in a color version or a black and white version. They can be downloaded and used immediately. We will also print quantities of the final FAFSA on the Web Worksheet in English and Spanish to be available in early January. We regret that the first launch of the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet was not completely smooth, but we were challenged by the possible last minute changes by the IRS. We thank you for your patience and for supporting our efforts to provide a better product for the millions of students who are filing their FAFSAs online. Sincerely, Jennifer Douglas Attachments/Enclosures: |
