Dear Partner:

This announcement briefly describes the Schools Portal's My FSA customization feature, then explains the security enhancements that will be added to My FSA beginning Monday, June 27.

My FSA: To date, over 2,400 Schools Portal users have signed up for a My FSA account, which is the customization feature of FSA's Schools Portal (http://fsa4schools.ed.gov). It allows you to choose which FSA web site links appear on your FSA Schools Portal page. Along with being able to choose the links, you may also add your own personal bookmarks to the list of links on the Schools Portal, such as your school's web site. You can sign up by going to http://fsa4schools.ed.gov and clicking on the My FSA button at the top of the page.).

Security Enhancements to My FSA: Beginning Monday, June 27, 2005, immediately upon initial login to My FSA, if you are a current registered user, you will be notified that your password has expired. You will receive an email with a temporary password which you will use to login to My FSA. You will then be prompted to create a new password that meets the following requirements:

  • Cannot be one of the last five previously used passwords;
  • Must be eight characters long;
  • Must contain a mix of alpha and numeric characters;
  • Upper and lowercase letters (Note: Passwords are case sensitive);
  • Must contain at least one special character (Note: special characters consist of !@#$^*()_-+={[}]|:;,.~ and can be obtained by using your shift key and the corresponding special character key)

Your password will be valid for 90 days. On Days 85 through 90, you will receive a "change password" message on your My FSA homepage below the greeting. (Note: This reminder will only appear once for each successful login until the password expires. If the password is not changed within the five-day grace period, your password will expire. You will be notified of the expired password immediately upon the next successful login and will be prompted to change the password-which you can do immediately).

If you need assistance accessing My FSA, please email us at fsa.customer.support@ed.gov and include your name, telephone number, and username, if available.
