Summary: Processing Issue Affecting Certain 2005-2006 ISIRs

Posted on 03-07-2005

The CPS has identified a processing issue that affected a small number of 2005-2006 ISIRs generated in real-time student Web corrections.

During the real-time processing of approximately 1,771 records, EFCs (and Secondary EFCs, if present) were pulled forward from the previous transactions even though the corrected ISIRs were legitimately rejected and accompanied by valid reject reasons. The EFCs on these records should have been blank.

--- The EFC is in ISIR field 186, positions 792-796
--- The Secondary EFC is in ISIR field 187, positions 797-801
--- The reject reason codes are in ISIR field 155, positions 698-711

The CPS implemented a fix for the issue on February 18, 2005, and made updates to the database to remove the invalid EFC values. Any rejected records processed after February 18, 2005, will not have EFCs.

Of the original 1,771 records, students or schools have corrected 905 records, resulting in new transactions on which the issue does not occur.

The CPS will reprocess the remaining 866 affected records on Friday, March 4 to remove the invalid EFC values, and will send corrected ISIRs to schools. Paper Student Aid Reports (SARs) or SAR e-mail notifications will be sent to students. Schools should receive the reprocessed records on Monday, March 7.

Reprocessed ISIRs can be identified by the following:

--- Reprocessed Reason Code (ISIR field #156, positions 712-713) will equal "02"
--- Comment Code 172 will be present in ISIR field #275, positions 1677-1736
--- Reprocessed records will be in the IGSG06OP message class

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
