Summary: Guidance provided to schools and others impacted by recent natural disasters

With multiple hurricanes impacting some states recently, the Secretary wants to remind all FSA partners of our guidance published in a Dear Colleague Letter (GEN-04-04) on February 24, 2004. A copy of GEN-04-04 is available on our IFAP website at http://ifap.ed.gov/ or by calling our Customer Service Call Center at 1-800-433-7327. In that letter, we provided regulatory and administrative relief to lessen the impact of a Federally-declared disaster on students, schools, lenders, and guaranty agencies.

In particular, impacted schools that are having trouble completing the FISAP by the established deadline of October 1, 2004 should contact the Campus-Based Call Center at 877-801-7168 as soon as possible for assistance.
