RE: SAIG EDconnect 6.0.2 patch
DATE: July 26, 2004

The Department of Education is pleased to announce availability of the EDconnect 6.0.2 patch, developed to correct three issues found in the new version of EDconnect 6.0 and one issue found in the 6.0.1 patch. Please keep in mind that you must have EDconnect 6.0 installed prior to installing this patch. None of these issues affect the main functionality of the software to send and receive data correctly, but based on your requests we have provided a patch to correct the following items:

1) Some of you are accustomed to EDconnect sequentially incrementing the extension number on file names, within each message class, with the next higher number. (i.e., *.dat, *.001, *.002, etc.). The 6.0 version of EDconnect is back filling extension numbers that are no longer being used and is skipping extension number .001 entirely. This has been corrected in the 6.02 patch.

2) For those of you who like to see the actual file size in your Activity Log View, the file size is showing as '0' for received files only. This has been corrected in the 6.02 patch.

3) For those of you who create your own Transmission Queue (TQT) files from within EDconnect, the software is creating an invalid record length. This has been corrected in the 6.02 patch.

4) In very limited circumstances using version 6.0.1, users receiving over 200 files had some received files overwritten by other files received during the same transmission. This has been corrected in the 6.0.2 patch.

Installation:

The EDConnect 6.0.2 patch is not a stand-alone full installation of the software; you must first install 6.0.0 prior to installing the patch.

1) If you have not yet installed EDconnect 6.0, then we strongly encourage you to do so as soon as possible and before installing the 6.0.2 patch. This will allow you to take advantage of the many enhancements and increased efficiency of the software. Simply download v6.0 from the FSAdownload Web site (fsadownload.ed.gov) and perform a full installation. You can find detailed instructions for downloading and installing EDconnect 6.0 in the Installation Guide for EDconnect, Version 6.0 that is also available on the FSAdownload Web site.

2) After installing EDConnect 6.0 then simply download the 6.0.2 patch from the FSAdownload Web site (fsadownload.ed.gov). Run the downloaded executable and the wizard will guide you through a quick installation of the patch. TIP: if you did not use the default path when installing v6.0, then make sure you choose the correct path when installing the 6.0.2 patch. EDconnect 6.0.2 will not install if it cannot find EDconnect 6.0 in the selected directory.

Note: If you have already installed the 6.0.1 patch you can simply follow step #2 above to upgrade to 6.0.2.

Since its release on April 14th, 3600 users have installed and are successfully using EDconnect 6.0. We have received positive responses from you and we encourage you to continue installing the new version so you may benefit from the many enhancements and increased efficiency of the software.
