RE: Full Installation Required for Upcoming DL Tools for Windows, Release 4.0 - For Both Current and New Users
The Department is planning to release Direct Loan (DL) Tools for Windows, Release 4.0, in mid-July, and would like to alert all current DL Tools users to the unique installation process that must be followed to successfully upgrade to Release 4.0. Important information regarding all installation scenarios will be detailed in the Release 4.0 Installation Guide. All users are strongly encouraged to read this information to ensure continued, reliable DL Tools operations.
As noted in a previous network message, you cannot upgrade from DL Tools Version 3.0 (or any prior version) directly to Release 4.0. If you wish to bring your current DL Tools data forward to Release 4.0, you must upgrade from DL Tools Version 3.0 to Version 3.1 first. Once you have upgraded from Version 3.0 to Version 3.1, you must reboot and then access the DL Tools software at least once in order to run a one-time database update. You can then exit DL Tools and run the Full installation of Release 4.0.
Special instructions for current users who do not wish to carry forward any prior data from DL Tools versions will also be included in the Installation Guide.
To upgrade from DL Tools Version 3.1 to Release 4.0, you must select a Full installation option - NOT a Custom installation option. The Full Server and Standalone installation options load a new Microsoft Access 2002 DL Tools database to your system. Data for program cycles 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 will be copied from your Version 3.1 database to your Release 4.0 database the first time you log into Release 4.0 following a Full installation.
NOTE: Users installing DL Tools for Windows for the first time should also perform a Full Installation of Release 4.0.
DL Tools Version 3.1 is available for download from the Department's Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site, located at fsadownload.ed.gov. A separate announcement will be posted when the DL Tools Release 4.0 software and Installation Guide are available for download.
