The updated draft of the 2005-2006 FAFSA is available for comment. A Federal Register Notice announcing the 30-day public comment period was posted on June 18, 2004. We incorporated suggestions we received during the previous comment period into the attached FAFSA draft.
Below are some key changes made from the previous draft FAFSA posting:
- Removed the proposed questions 18-21 asking for the name, SSN, and date of birth of the student's spouse
- Restored questions 94 through 97 to page 6, so that students may enter six college choices
- Moved questions asking for student's degree or certificate and student's grade level from page 6 to page 3 (questions 23 and 24)
- Moved questions regarding interest in student loans and work-study from page 6 to page 3 (questions 27 and 28)
- Re-numbered questions 18 through 28 to follow the same sequence as the 2004-2005 FAFSA
- Added an instruction on page 1, Using Your Tax Return, for students who have not yet filed their IRS forms
- Added definition of "net worth" to questions 44 and 82
- Added a sentence to the Certification Statement, page 6, warning students not to disclose their PIN if they use it to electronically sign student aid documents
- On Worksheet A, page 8, added guidance on reporting Social Security Benefits
- In all date fields, added gray-shaded "MMDDYYYY" to guide students in filling out dates
