The first draft of the proposed 2005-2006 FAFSA is available for comment. A Federal Register Notice announcing a 60-day public comment period was posted on March 12.
Below is a summary of proposed changes to the 2005-2006 FAFSA:

- Updated the dates

- Moved the Notes regarding who is considered to be a parent from page 7 to page 2

- Added questions 18-21 asking for the student's spouse's Social Security number, last name, first initial, and date of birth. These questions are needed for an IRS match.
- Moved the "What degree or certificate will you be working on?" and the "What will be your grade level?"questions to step 6, page 6
- Moved the "Are you interested in loans or work-study?" questions to step 6, page 6

- Deleted the 5th and 6th college codes, college names, and housing choices
- Moved the "What degree or certificate will you be working on?" and "What will be your grade level?" questions from step 1 to step 6
- Moved the questions asking "Are you interested in loans or work-study?" from step 1 to step 6

- Moved the Notes for "What degree or certificate will you be working on?" and "What will be your grade level?" to page 7 to align with other school-related questions
