The U.S. Department of Education is pleased to inform you that we have posted updates to the 2004-2005 ISIR Guide, dated February 2003. A complete list of the updates we have made is included in Appendix I of the Guide. The guide is available in Adobe PDF format on the Department’s Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site at http://fsadownload.ed.gov and on the Department’s Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site at http://ifap.ed.gov.
The ISIR Guide assists schools in interpreting the information contained in electronic Institutional Student Information Records (ISIRs) returned by the Central Processing System (CPS).
In addition to an overview of the Electronic Data Exchange (EDE) process and specific information about the ISIR, the guide includes the following appendices: Reject Codes and Reject Reasons, Database Matches and Match Flags, Loan Status Codes and Eligibility Charts, SAR and SAR Information Acknowledgment, SAR/ISIR Comment Codes and Text, Addresses, Sample ISIR, and a link for Worksheet for Question 35.
To download the guide from the FSAdownload Web site:
1) Go to http://fsadownload.ed.gov.
2) Click on the “Technical References & Guides” link.
3) Click on the “2004-2005” link under the “ISIR Guide” heading on the following page.
4) On the next page, click with your right mouse button on the “PDF Format” link and a menu appears.
5) If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, select “Save Target As” from the menu, then browse to the folder to which you wish to save the file. If you are using Netscape, select “Save Link As” from the menu, then browse to the folder to which you wish to save the file.
6) Once the file has been saved, you may open it in Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and/or print the document.

1) Go to http://ifap.ed.gov.
2) Click on the “Current Publications” link on the left side of the page under “OTHER VIEWS.”
3) On the following page, click on the “SAR/ISIR Reference Material” link.
4) Click on the “By 2004-2005 Award Year” link on the next page.
5) Click on the “A Guide to 2004-2005 ISIRs” link on the next page.
6) At the bottom of the next page, right-click on the “A Guide to 2004-2005 ISIRs in PDF Format” link and a menu appears.
7) If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, select “Save Target As” from the menu, then browse to the folder to which you wish to save the file. If you are using Netscape, select “Save Link As” from the menu, then browse to the folder to which you wish to save the file.
