RE: EDExpress for Windows 2004-2005, Release 1.0 DLL File Available to Help New EDExpress Users and Schools Adding New PCs
DATE: February 3, 2004
As noted in a previous posting, we recently identified a software issue with EDExpress for Windows 2004-2005, Release 1.0 affecting PCs that did not previously have EDExpress for Windows 2003-2004 installed on them. This issue is most likely to affect schools adding new PCs to their financial aid office system or schools using EDExpress for Windows for the first time.
The Release 1.0 installation does not load certain Dynamic Link Library (DLL) files installed by the EDExpress for Windows 2003-2004 software. Without these files, Release 1.0 functionality that allows EDExpress to interface with the FAA Access to CPS Online Web site will generate an "Error connecting to PIN web server!" message .
We have developed a small installation file, XML_DLL.exe, you can run on your EDExpress PC workstation(s) to resolve this issue. The installation file, XML_DLL.exe is now available on the Department's Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site (located at FSAdownload.ed.gov).
On the FSADownload Web site, click the Software and Associated Documents link, select EDExpress for Windows, Release 1.0, and click on the "Full Download" link in the "Executable Patch" section (above the "Release 1.0" section) to download the install file to a location on your PC or network.
You should install the XML_DLL.exe file on all PC workstations that did not previously have EDExpress for Windows 2003-2004 installed on them. Be sure to reboot each workstation following the installation.
We regret any inconvenience you may have experienced. A permanent resolution to this issue will be implemented in EDExpress for Windows 2004-2005, Release 2.0, due for release in March.
