RE: New Browsers supported by FAFSA on the Web and FAA Access to CPS Online

The US Department of Education is pleased to announce the support of additional browsers for use with FAFSA on the Web and FAA Access to CPS Online. The newly supported browsers are:

  • Netscape Navigator 6.2.3 for Mac OS 9
  • Netscape Navigator 7.02 for Windows 98, NT, 2000, ME, and XP
  • Netscape Navigator 7.1 for Windows 98, NT, 2000, ME, XP, and Mac OS 10.2
  • AOL 9.0 for Windows 98, 98SE, ME, 2000 and XP

We would like to again remind all FAFSA on the Web and FAA Access to CPS Online users that beginning January 1, 2004 these sites cannot be accessed using browser versions lower than version 5.0. This requirement affects both Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator browsers. We made this change in order to utilize the latest browser standards and to benefit web users with disabilities.

If you attempt to access FAFSA on the Web and FAA Access to CPS Online with a browser lower than version 5.0, a page will display indicating you need to upgrade your browser. The page displayed lists the browsers we support and provides links to sites where you can download the supported browsers.

If you are currently using a browser below version 5.0, you must upgrade to access FAFSA on the Web or FAA Access to CPS Online. Use the following lists to determine which Netscape and Internet Explorer browsers we support. The supported browsers are grouped by type and operating system.

Supported Netscape browsers:

  • Windows 95 -- Netscape Navigator 6.2, 6.2.1, 6.2.2 and 6.2.3
  • Windows 98 -- Netscape Navigator 6.2, 6.2.1, 6.2.2, 6.2.3, 7.01, 7.02, and 7.1
  • Windows NT -- Netscape Navigator 6.2, 6.2.1, 6.2.2, 6.2.3, 7.01, 7.02, and 7.1
  • Windows 2000 -- Netscape Navigator 6.2, 6.2.1, 6.2.2, 6.2.3, 7.01, 7.02, and 7.1
  • Windows ME -- Netscape Navigator 6.2, 6.2.1, 6.2.2, 6.2.3, 7.01, 7.02, and 7.1
  • Windows XP (Home and Professional) -- Netscape Navigator 6.2, 6.2.1, 6.2.2, 6.2.3, 7.01, 7.02, and 7.1
  • Mac OS 9 -- Netscape Navigator 6.2.3
  • Mac OS 10.2 -- Netscape Navigator 7.1

To download one of these browsers go to http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/default.jsp. Select the "Free Download" button on this page to download Netscape Navigator 7.1. To download a version of Netscape Navigator, select the "Product Archive" link.

Supported Internet Explorer browsers:

  • Windows 95 -- Internet Explorer 5.0, 5.01, 5.01 SP1 and SP2, 5.5, 5.5 SP1 and SP2
  • Windows 98 -- Internet Explorer 5.0, 5.01, 5.01 SP1 and SP2, 5.5, 5.5 SP1 and SP2, 6.0, 6.0 SP1
  • Windows NT -- Internet Explorer 5.0, 5.01, 5.01 SP1 and SP2, 5.5, 5.5 SP1 and SP2, 6.0, 6.0 SP1
  • Windows 2000 -- Internet Explorer 5.0, 5.01, 5.01 SP1 and SP2, 5.5, 5.5 SP1 and SP2, 6.0, 6.0 SP1
  • Windows ME -- Internet Explorer 5.5, 5.5 with SP1 and SP2, 6.0, 6.0 SP1
  • Windows XP (Home and Professional) -- Internet Explorer 6.0, 6.0 SP1

NOTE: There are browsers other than those listed that will allow you to access the sites. If you choose to use a browser other than one of those listed, the site's pages may not display properly, and you may encounter problems that Customer Service may not be able to resolve.
