RE: 2004-05 Reprocessing Due to Error with Electronic Signatures in FAFSA on the Web
The Central Processing System (CPS) has identified and resolved an error in the Electronic Signature process in FAFSA on the Web that was causing the student's last name to be incorrectly updated to the first two letters of the student's last name. The error occurred when an applicant applied an electronic signature to a processed transaction that had been rejected for lack of a student's signature (Rejects 14 or 16). As a result of the last name being changed, most of these records received an SSA Match of 3. These records will be reprocessed so that the last name can be corrected and the SSA Match results updated, unless the student has already corrected his or her name.
The FAFSA on the Web issue was resolved on Friday, January 23, 2004. It affected approximately 668 records, which will be reprocessed on Thursday, January 29 and returned via the SAIG in the ISIR system-generated message class IGSA05OP on Friday, January 30.
Individual records affected by the issue can be identified by the following:
System Generated Code = Z
Reprocess Reason = 02
Comment Code = 172
Please note that if you make a correction to a student's ISIR (other than to the last name) on which the last name is wrong due to the FAFSA on the Web issue, you will receive an ISIR on which the last name is still wrong. If you correct the reprocessed ISIR, or an ISIR on which the last name has been corrected, the ISIR you receive will have the corrected last name.
We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and thank you for your patience.
