Re: COD Full Participant Message Classes Updated for 2004-2005 Award Year
The Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System is implementing additional Full Participant message classes for the 2004-2005 Award Year. Schools, third-party servicers and software vendors should review the message classes to determine how this change affects their COD processing for the 2004-2005 Award Year.
Beginning with the 2004-2005 Award Year, Full Participants will be able to choose the message class in which they send and receive documents to and from the COD System. Message class options will include the following:
- Non-program specific and non-award year specific. Example: COMRECIN, COMRECOP
- Non-program specific and award year specific (2004-2005).
- Program specific (Pell, Direct Loan and/or Campus-Based) and non-award year specific.
- Program specific (Pell, Direct Loan and/or Campus-Based) and award year specific (2004-2005).
The complete list of the message classes available for use in 2004-2005 is available in the COD Technical Reference Volume 2, Section2 at: http://www.fsadownload.ed.gov/CODTechRef0405.htm. For award years prior to 2004-2005, Full Participant schools should continue to send documents in the non-program, non-award year specific message class (COMRECIN, COMRECOP).
Full Participant schools do not need to use all of the message classes. Use of these message classes will vary by school based on their business processes and system software. Schools are encouraged to contact their software provider to see how they will be set up for the 2004-2005 Award Year.
The Department's EDExpress software will be using the non-program specific and award year specific message classes as indicated in Volume V, Section 2 -- Combination System Message Classes of the 2004-2005 COD Technical Reference. The detailed list of message classes EDExpress will be using is available at: http://www.fsadownload.ed.gov/CODTechRef0405.htm.
