RE: Important Installation Alert for EDExpress for Windows 2004-2005, Release 1.0
DATE: January 9, 2004
EDExpress for Windows 2004-2005, Release 1.0, is scheduled to be posted to the US Department of Education's Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site (http://fsadownload.ed.gov) during the week of January 12, 2004. Changes to the EDExpress installation program were required due to the upgrade from an Access 97 database to an Access 2002 database. Because of these changes, you may need the assistance of your school's technical support department to install Release 1.0.
If you use Windows 2000 or Windows XP, someone with Administrative rights MUST install Release 1.0 to your PC workstation. If your EDExpress database is on a network server, the software must be installed by someone with Administrative rights to both the PC workstation and the network.
If you are not an Administrator, you will receive a warning that you do not have sufficient rights to install the software, and you will not be allowed to continue with the installation.
You can check to see if you are a member of the Administrators group by clicking on the Windows Start button (bottom left corner of your screen) and going to Settings, Control Panel. Double-click on the Users and Passwords icon. Find your name in the User Name column. The group to which you belong will be listed in the Group column.
Please consult with your school's technical support department if you are not an Administrator, or if you receive a warning that the software must be installed by an Administrator when you start the installation. Although CPS/WAN Technical Support can help with most installation problems, this particular issue must be resolved by your school's technical support department.
Once an Administrator has installed Release 1.0, you can run the software as a member of the Power Users group, as with EDExpress for Windows 2003-2004. If you are currently running EDExpress for Windows 2003-2004, you will be able to run EDExpress for Windows 2004-2005 after it has been installed. If your database is on a network server, you must be a Power User or higher on the network (or "domain") as well as on your PC workstation. There are no workarounds for these Microsoft Windows rights issues.
If you cannot determine if you have Administrative rights to your workstation, please contact your school's technical support department prior to attempting to install the release of EDExpress for Windows 2004-2005, Release 1.0. If you do not have Administrative rights, you will need to make arrangements for someone with Administrative rights to install EDExpress for you.
