The US Department of Education is pleased to announce that a Summary of 2004-05 Application Processing System Changes is now available (see attachment below) and will soon be posted on the Federal Student Aid (FSA) Download Web site at http://FSAdownload.ed.gov.

The summary provides information about the changes and enhancements FSA is making to the 2004-05 Application Processing System, including changes to the:

  • Paper Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and Renewal FAFSA,
  • Central Processing System (CPS), including edits, database matches, and need analysis,
  • Student Aid Report (SAR),
  • Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR),
  • Federal School Code List, and
  • CPS Test System.

Many of the enhancements we made were based on suggestions from you and your colleagues, as well as from students and parents. As we continue our efforts to simplify and automate the application process, and respond to the needs of student aid applicants and the financial aid community, we encourage you to share with us your ideas and suggestions for further enhancements.

This is the last in a series of announcements about changes we are making to the 2004-05 application processing system.

  • In August 2003, we posted an electronic announcement on FSA's Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) and FSAdownload Web sites, summarizing the changes we made to the 2004-05 Renewal Application Process (RAPP). At the same time, we posted a comprehensive Renewal Application Data Process Guide on FSAdownload, which provides information and instructions for participating in the RAPP process.

  • In November 2003, we posted announcements on the IFAP and FSAdownload Web sites describing changes we have made to -
    • FSA's electronic processes for schools, including the EDESuite/EDExpress software, and FAA Access to CPS Online. This announcement also included information about FSA's new ISIR Datamart.

    • FSA's student Web application products, including FAFSA on the Web and the PIN Web site.
  • In November 2003, we posted the 2004-05 Guide to Institutional Student Information Records (ISIR) to the IFAP and FSAdownload Web sites.
