Subject: Citizenship Match with DHS (formerly INS) - Improved Status Check in Primary Verification for 2003-04
As of July 28, 2003, the status for Naturalized Citizen, Refugee-Employment Authorized and Asylee-Employment Authorized will no longer be flagged with a non-eligible flag of "N" in the match results for Primary Verification. In the past, these statuses have been flagged unnecessarily and caused records to go to Secondary Confirmation only to determine that the actual status is "eligible". Therefore, DHS has revised their database to eliminate the added delay and burden in processing applicants in these categories.
Because this is a change in mid cycle processing at CPS for 2003-04, you may encounter records that were flagged with the ineligible status in Primary Verification and will no longer be flagged as such on a correction transaction even though nothing has changed in their status. Likewise, applicants who are processed after July 28, 2003 and may have the same status in these areas as an applicant who was processed prior to the change will not be flagged. The change at DHS will carry over into the 2004-05 application processing cycle, which begins in January 2004.
