RE: SAIG Network Password 90-Day Expiration Reminder

DATE: June 2003

CPS/WAN Technical Support would like to remind you of the 90-day expiration rule for network passwords. This change will take effect on June 29, 2003, as explained in Network Message #38, posted on March 11, 2003.

Some users’ passwords are currently due to expire in July under the old 120-day expiration. However, these mailbox passwords will expire immediately when the 90-day expiration rule takes effect on June 29. In order to continue to use the Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) without interruption, we recommend that you change your network password prior to the forced expiration period.

If you do not reset your network password prior to June 29, and then transmit using EDconnect or EasyAccess/TDClient, a “531 error” will indicate your network password has expired and needs to be changed.

We have included several Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) below for your convenience:

** If I use EDconnect, how do I find out when my network password will expire? **

1. Select “New” from the “File” menu and select “Security View” from the list of views. The Security View will appear on your screen.

2. Highlight the desired security group in the Security View, click with the right mouse button, and select “Properties” from the pop-up menu, or select “Properties” from the “Edit” menu. The Group Properties dialog box will appear on your screen.

3. Select the Network tab. Your network password expiration date will appear next to the word “Expiration” in the dialog box. Note: If you do not see a date in this area, submit a network password change and this field will populate with a date.

We suggest making a note on your calendar or planner as a reminder to change the password on or before this date.

We encourage you to change your password prior to the expiration date to avoid having your network password expire.

6. Select “Now” from the “Transmission” menu. Your PC will connect to the SAIG and transmit your new password.

** If I transmit data using EasyAccess/TDClient, how do I change my SAIG network password? **

When your network password expires, the following warning message will display in your job output logs, “531 Change password required.” Instructions for changing your network password are available in the SAIG Host Communication Guide for Mainframe and Midrange Users v1.4. This document is available at www.fsadownload.ed.gov. We encourage you to change your password prior to the expiration date to avoid receiving this error message.
