RE: Updating Information in the Federal School Code File
We are contacting you to confirm that your school name and address is listed correctly in the Federal School Code file attached as a Word document as well as a PDF file to this message. Please review your school name, city, and state, and e-mail any changes to cpswan@ncs.com.Â
Why we're sending this message
The Federal School Code (FSC) List is being updated for the 2004-2005 processing cycle. Applicants for federal student aid use this list to find the codes of the school(s) they wish to attend and include the codes on their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). When a FAFSA is processed, the student aid information is sent to the school(s) the applicant listed on the FAFSA.
Applicants may get the FSC List from high schools, libraries, and postsecondary schools, or they can access the FSC search online at the FAFSA on the Web site at http://www.fafsa.ed.govÂ
What you should do
If your school's name, city, and state, as shown in the FSC file at the link above, have not changed, you DO NOT have to do anything. If your school's information has officially changed, you must update your Program Participation Agreement before we can change it in the FSC file. To do this, go to the Department's Web site at http://www.eligcert.ed.gov.  Your Current User Name is "ED" plus all 8 digits of your OPE ID. Your password is "ED" plus your 9-digit Tax Identification Number (TIN).
If you need your information in the Federal School Code file updated, please send an email to cpswan@ncs.com with "FSC Update" in the subject line.
If you do not want your school code listed in the Federal School Code file, please send an email to cpswan@ncs.com with "FSC Inactivate" in the subject line. Make sure to include your school code, school name, as well as your name and phone number where you can be reached if questions arise.
NOTE: A school can only have ONE city and state per Federal School Code. In addition, changes to the FSC file does not change your school's name or address in any other U.S. Department of Education database. Attachment 1, at the end of this message, shows the valid length for address fields as well as some standard abbreviations if you need to use them.
Also, please verify that the type of Federal School Code you use is correct:Â Â The following are the current code types:
0 (zero) = You participate in the Pell Grant program
G = You participate in the FFEL program but not in the Pell Grant program
B = You participate in Campus-based programs only
E = You have an ED-assigned code as an authorized branch campus
To ensure we receive your changes in time to incorporate them into the 2004-2005 Federal School Code List, please reply by e-mail no later than July 16, 2003.
Your assistance in updating the 2004-2005 Federal School Code List is appreciated. Â If you have any questions, please contact CPS/WAN Technical Support at 1-800/330-5947 or via e-mail at CPSWAN@NCS.COM.
